Just one week into Season of the Seraph, Destiny 2’s annual Dawning event is back and the snowballs are flying. As always, Guardians are running around frantically gathering ingredients to bake cookies for their favorite NPCs, with Eva Levante waiting patiently at the Tower to reward them for their generosity. Holiday cheer is in the air, and everyone seems to be enjoying the latest event on Bungie’s popular MMO.

This year’s Dawning gives players the opportunity to acquire five unique weapons, as well as some fur-lined, Dawning-themed Eververse ornaments for the truly vain at heart. Along with weapons and armor, snowballs have made a glorious comeback, making some more difficult battles just a bit easier (and more fun). There are even some event challenges that require players to defeat enemies with snowballs, so players desiring to complete the event card should mind those.
Weapons and ornaments aren’t the only new Dawning items available though. Players can also get their hands on new emblems, shaders, emotes, ghost shells, sparrows, and ships, all in celebration of the event.

During the Dawning event, players are tasked with acquiring ingredients to bake cookies for various NPCs throughout the solar system. Ingredients can be obtained by various means (solar kills, melee kills, super kills, etc.), and those means determine which ingredient is produced. Other ingredients required include “Dawning Essence,” which can be obtained by completing various in-game activities. Upon acquiring the necessary ingredients, players then use Eva’s Holiday Oven 2.1 to bake a number of different cookies, each preferred by different NPCs.
In exchange for gifting cookies to an NPC, players are offered “A Gift in Return.” Not only does each gift include glimmer and a substantial amount of experience, but it may also include upgrade modules, legendary shards, enhancement cores, or enhancement prisms. Alongside “A Gift in Return,” players will receive a number of “Dawning Spirit,” this year’s Dawning currency, that can be used to upgrade Eva Levante’s vendor screen.

Although the Dawning is certainly the highlight of the week, Guardians still have plenty of other things to do as the second week of content for Season of the Seraph has been made available as well as the latest dungeon, Spire of the Watcher. For the most part, the community seems to be enjoying the new season, with the exception of those feeling the current seasonal model has grown stale.
This year’s Dawning event is currently live from now until January 2nd, so interested players will want to give themselves plenty of time to complete every task available to them. Otherwise, the Season of the Seraph will continue until Lightfall, Destiny 2’s next expansion, releases on February 28th, 2023.
Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
